Choirs

Attendance:
Choir is not optional. If you do not show up, you are not able to participate, and that time cannot be made up.  If you accumulate unexcused absences in my class, it will dramatically damage your grade.
  • Excused absences can be made up if you accumulate more than 3 in a semester by coming in during a first period and working on music.  (Absences not made up will result in 4% reduction in the grade)
  • Unexcused absences cannot be made up and will result in a 4% deduction from the grade
  • If you miss two or more rehearsals in the two weeks before a concert, excused or unexcused, you will not be permitted to perform on the concert.
Participation:
  • Students are expected to be on time and engaged in rehearsal.
  • No cell phones, parents will be contacted on the third offense, students will be notified at the end of class if they have been caught using their phone
  • If a student has frequent problems a behavioral contract will be put in place.  The contract will involve the student earning participation points on a weekly basis to maintain their grade.
The Goal of the policy here is to keep the student focused and maintain a healthy environment for rehearsal. If a student is not meeting the expectations they will be informed after class by Mr. MacSween. Parents and administration will be involved if needed. Ultimately students will be removed from a given ensemble if they are not able to meet the expectations of attendance and participation.
Concerts:
There are four a year, and they ARE NOT OPTIONAL.  I say it every year many times, this is the #1 way people fail my class.  If you are going to miss a concert for extenuating circumstances you must notify me at least two weeks in advance.  If there is a medical or family emergency I must receive a phone call at 541.355.3750 before the concert starts.  A parent meeting will also be required in order to confirm an emergency.  If it is deemed the reason for missing the concert is excusable, you will have a 5 page paper to write to make up for missing the concert.  The link for the assignment sheet is at the bottom of this page.
